Memoirs of Phyllis Ellis
This is the story of Phyllis Ellis in her own words, transcribed from conversations she had with Peter Kelley a few years before she died aged 90 in 2004.
Phyllis was the wife of Ted Ellis, the celebrated Norfolk naturalist, writer and broadcaster. After his death in 1986 she was instrumental in setting up the Ted Ellis Nature Reserve at Wheatfen Broad on the River Yare near Norwich. She became well-known as a speaker in her own right, giving illustrated lectures on Natural History and taking part in regular radio broadcasts. Aged 83 in 1996 she received an MBE for Services to Nature Conservation, after which she took up abseiling for charity, continuing with this activity until she was 88 years old.
Her great-grandfather was head gamekeeper to Queen Victoria at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. The Queen herself chose the site of his grave and attended his funeral. The book contains over 50 photographs including some from this period in the family archive.
Phyllis was familiar to readers of the Eastern Daily Press and Country Living amongst other publications and she has already appeared in several books. David Bellamy, patron of the Ted Ellis Trust, was a friend and admired her spirit and energy as well as enjoying her legendary hospitality.
He described her as "a powerhouse of drive and energy" Wetlands 1990
"Phyllis is charming, witty, erudite, fun-loving, intensely interested in other
people and delightfully careless of material comforts." Miles Hedley Still Waters
1999

Server 4. As the web has grown some of our customers find
they have different businesses each with one or more websites that are
often
scattered
over a variety of ISP's and hosting companies.
The bigger the business gets the more complex and confusing the
situation can become. One solution is to have one dedicated server for all
of the organisations
web sites and move all of them there. We are
now in the process of doing this for Danger UK.
Webdesigner.co.uk has now
been given the laslett.info CSS styling.
Gardening blog gets a facelift - new

Sitting at a computer all day can get a little tedious so I like the contrast
of gardening and beekeeping to
get me out of the house and away from the machines. This year I have been
supplying more unpasteurized
or 'raw' Norwich honey to
hay fever sufferers. I haven't had anyone asking for bee venom therapy yet
- but I guess someone will be after the beneficial effects of bee stings
sooner or later.
