Thanks for your email. I would appreciate more details of your information on Maria Laslett.

My information on her death in 1848 came from Canon George Browning of the Laslett Charities in Worcester who many years ago sent me a copy of his article "Two Celebrities of Nineteenth Century Worcester: William Laslett & Bishop Robert Carr". This was published in "Transactions of the Worcestershire Archaeological Society" Third Series Vol.8 1982. On page 61 he writes of William's marriage to Maria Carr and states "Maria died in 1848."

Richard Laslett in his letters pre-WWI also mentions the early death of Maria and discusses William's will. Richard was our original family historian. He knew William personally and drafted a family pedigree for him (probably when William was applying for Arms as Richard was a pupil of J. R. Planché from the College of Arms).

Your details on Maria would explain a lot of William's actions which have to date seemed completely out of character given some of the stories that circulated about him.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would give me the references from which you draw your facts. It would be wonderful if you could scan any documentation that you have for me. Do you have a copy of the 1888 death certificate of Maria Laslett? If not I'll order one.

This will enable me to correct the brief biography of William that the Worcester Public Library obtained from me back around 1990.
