Week twentytwo May 27th - June 3rd
Plant out leeks. Sow swede. Sow main-crop carrots and beetroot. Sow Canterbury bells for next year's flowering. Keep hoeing. Feed and water garden plants. Weed and mulch. Water peas when pods have formed, soaking every evening. Support broad beans. Sow more French and runner beans. Plant out some basil in a hot protected border. Your stock of annuals can be improved over the years by selecting the best plants now and removing inferior plants as the first flowers open, then collecting seed from the better plants for sowing later in the year or the beginning of next year.
